BIBO
BiB₃O₆ (bismuth borate), abbreviated BIBO, is a new nonlinear optical crystal. It is non-deliquescent, has stable physical and chemical properties and a high optical damage threshold, and exhibits large birefringence with a phase-matching wavelength that is sensitive to angle. Its particularly notable advantage is an effective nonlinear coefficient dₑff of up to 3.32 pm/V, higher than those of the commonly used BBO and LBO crystals. In external-cavity frequency-doubling experiments at 1064 nm, its conversion efficiency can approach 70%. BIBO can therefore serve as an efficient frequency-doubling and sum-frequency device and also has broad application prospects in optical parametric oscillation (OPO).
