TGG (terbium gallium garnet) is the best magneto-optical material for making Faraday rotators and isolators, applicable wavelengths 400nm-1100nm (excluding 470nm-500nm). TGG single crystal has a large magneto-optical constant, low optical loss, high thermal conductivity and a high laser damage threshold.

| Magneto-Optical Crystal TGG | TGG (Terbium Gallium Garnet) is the best magneto-optical material for fabricating Faraday rotators and isolators, suitable for the wavelength range of 400nm-1100nm (excluding 470nm-500nm). A Faraday rotator consists of a TGG crystal rod and a specially designed magnet. The polarization direction of a beam passing through the magneto-optical material is rotated under the action of the magnetic field; the rotation direction depends only on the direction of the magnetic field and is independent of the beam propagation direction. An optical isolator consists of a 45-degree rotator and a pair of properly placed polarizers, allowing the beam to pass in only one direction while blocking the counter-propagating beam. TGG single crystals feature a large magneto-optical constant, low optical loss, high thermal conductivity and high laser damage threshold, and are widely used in multi-stage amplification, ring and seed-injection lasers such as YAG and Ti:sapphire lasers. |
