α-BBO (barium metaborate) crystal is an excellent birefringent material with good transmission from ultraviolet to mid-infrared, good internal quality and low absorption. Because of its excellent ultraviolet transmission, it is widely used in high-extinction-ratio and deep-ultraviolet laser systems, mainly processed into polarizing devices such as Glan prisms. Advantages include high ultraviolet transmittance, large birefringence, low volume absorption, high damage threshold and stable physical and mechanical properties.
