LiNbO₃&MgO:LiNbO₃ Pockels cell
The LN (LiNbO₃) Pockels cell, also called a lithium niobate Pockels cell, offers good overall performance and is widely used in optical communications and optical waveguide technology. It features a high electro-optic coefficient, non-hygroscopicity, a broad transparency range and good mechanical and physical properties. Applications include electro-optic modulators, modulated resonators. Its high electro-optic coefficient, non-hygroscopicity, good transmission up to 4.0 µm and transverse-mode operation make lithium niobate one of the most commonly used materials for Q-switches and phase modulators. Applying an electric field transverse to the direction of light propagation allows a LiNBO₃ cell to operate at a lower voltage than a KD*P cell. LiNbO₃ Pockels cells support infrared operation up to 4.0 µm and are also suitable for low- and medium-power solid-state lasers, including pulsed Er:YAG, Ho:YAG and Tm:YAG lasers. Mgo-doped LiNbO₃ has a significantly higher damage threshold than conventional undoped LiNbO3.
