KDP&DKDP Electro-optic crystal KD*P
KDP and DKDP (KD*P), or potassium dihydrogen phosphate and potassium dideuterium phosphate, are electro-optic crystals with good overall performance. They are widely used in laser frequency conversion, electro-optic modulation and fast electro-optic switching. Their advantages include a high optical-damage threshold, excellent electro-optic coefficients, good environmental tolerance, compact design and easy adjustment. They enable low-cost, large nonlinear components for second-harmonic (SHG) and third-harmonic (THG) generation. KDP is mainly used as a piezoelectric and electro-optic crystal for sonar, piezoelectric transducers, electro-optic modulators and optical switches. Its nonlinear optical properties have also led to use as a frequency-conversion crystal in laser manufacture, including second-, third- and fourth-harmonic generation of Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) lasers. KDP is also used in laser-induced nuclear-fusion engineering. DKDP has two main applications: 1. Electro-optic crystals for modulators and related devices. 2. Nonlinear crystals for large-aperture, high-energy laser frequency doublers.
