Cr:YAG
Our Cr⁴⁺:YAG, also called chromium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet, has the chemical formula Cr:Y₃Al₅O₁₂ and is a Q-switching crystal with good overall performance. Its excellent physical and chemical properties allow it to serve both as a Q-switch and as a gain medium. It is widely used in passively Q-switched lasers for laser rangefinders, LIDAR, and LIBS systems. Cr:YAG offers chemical stability, durability, ultraviolet resistance, good thermal conductivity, a high damage threshold (>500 MW/cm²), and simple operation, and is superseding conventional materials such as LiF and organic dyes. It is an excellent, widely used electro-optic material for passive Q-switching of laser-diode- or lamp-pumped Nd:YAG, Nd:YLF, Nd:YVO₄, and other Nd- or Yb-doped lasers over 0.8~1.2µm. It can also act as an active medium for CW, pulsed, or self-mode-locked tunable NIR solid-state lasers over 1340–1580nm and as a Q-switching medium in lasers operating at 950-1100nm. Absorption saturation in the 1060 nm band can be used in compact flashlamp- or laser-diode-pumped Nd:YAG oscillators instead of dye- or LiF:F-center-based passive Q-switches, enabling a self-mode-locked (KML) regime with Cr⁴⁺:YAG. This offers the opportunity to construct laser sources at 1450-1580nm with pulse durations shorter than 100fs.
