MgO:LiNbO₃
Compared with undoped LiNbO₃, MgO-doped LiNbO₃ crystals have a higher optical damage threshold and nonlinear conversion efficiency. Doping also increases the Raman scattering cross section and reduces phonon-mode loss. MgO:LiNbO₃ has distinctive advantages over LiNbO₃ in NCPM frequency doubling, frequency mixing, and optical parametric oscillation with Nd-doped lasers. Frequency-doubling efficiencies exceeding 65% and 45% can be obtained with pulsed and continuous-wave Nd:YAG lasers, respectively. MgO:LiNbO₃ is widely used in optical parametric oscillation (OPO), optical parametric amplification (OPA), quasi-phase matching, and integrated optical waveguides.
