Plastic-film thickness optical system: UV xenon lamp, UV spectrometer and probe. White-light interference uses d = (wave2 - wave1)/deltaWave * K, where wave is wavelength, deltaWave the two-peak separation and K the refractive coefficient. Typical range is 0.5um -100um: approximately 200nm UV for 0.5um films, 500-600nm visible for 10-50um, and 800nm IR for around 80um. Above 100um, vernier calipers are recommended. Transparent films use transmission; opaque films, such as semiconductor etch endpoints, use reflection. A CMOS UV spectrometer and xenon source provide a cost-effective solution, with a JPN detector and USA/Germany hardware. 1. Integrated CMOS/xenon UV system simplifies measurement. 2. A high-performance flashing xenon lamp gives stable UV measurements. 3. Low-cost integration reduces complexity and provides a complete solution.

UV spectrophotometry, UV spectral measurement, UV spectrometers and UV absorption spectroscopy; absorbance and transmittance/transmission-coefficient measurement; water-quality and total-nitrogen measurement; absorbance and concentration calculation; liquid concentration or content calculated with the Beer-Lambert law; protein-concentration measurement; quantitative analysis. Thin-film interference thickness measurement is a noncontact method using optical interference and interference-spectrum wavelength changes to determine film thickness. In interference-color measurement, reflected light produces colors dependent on film thickness and refractive index; color changes determine thickness. Test steps: Software switches off the xenon lamp to acquire spectrometer electronic noise, then switches it on. A reflection probe collects the spectrum; changes in reflected intensity and interference formulas determine thickness. Fast, precise, noncontact measurement serves semiconductor manufacturing, optical materials and coating processes. Example: Lens coatings and aluminum films1-10um thick are measured in reflection with a xenon lamp in the ultraviolet band. Example: Transparent plastic films20-80um thick are measured in transmission. Test procedure:1. Switch off the source and collect electronic noise.2. Switch on the source, set500ms exposure, position a white reference board and acquire a reference spectrum.3. Remove the board, position the sample and acquire its spectrum. Peak-to-peak spacing and incident wavelength determine coating thickness.
