Nondiffracting Beam Experiment System Basic version
A nondiffracting beam maintains the same optical-field distribution, intensity and size in cross-sections along its propagation direction. Such beams are increasingly important in optical micromanipulation and microscopic optical-tweezers research. This experimental system generates Bessel and Airy beams. Nondiffracting Bessel beams support microscope and highly compact imaging systems. In plasma and plasmonics, Airy beams create curved plasma channels in air, addressing overlap of conical radiation from Gaussian-generated channels that obscures observation and detection of selected plasma sections. In optical communications, Airy beams, like Bessel beams, offer limited spreading, strong turbulence resistance and free-space self-focusing.
