Polarization Beamsplitter/Combiner
A polarizing beamsplitter is used to split incident unpolarized light into two polarized beams with orthogonal polarization states, with both output beams parallel to the incident light. The O-ray exits along the original optical path with no displacement, while the E-ray walks off along the optical axis but still exits parallel to the incident light. The polarizing beamsplitter can also be used in reverse to combine two orthogonally polarized beams.
