The Wollaston prism polarizer contains two right-angle prisms made from a uniaxial crystal such as calcite, which is commonly used in Wollaston prisms. Their crystal axes are oriented perpendicular to one another. The outgoing o and e beams lie almost symmetrically on either side of the incident beam, so the deflection angles of the o and e beams are approximately twice those of a Rochon prism. Different separation angles can be designed to customer requirements.

Kösters prisms, parallel-splitting prisms and beamsplitter prisms divide input light into two components in laser and illumination systems. A Kösters beamsplitter comprises two specially designed prisms, with a beamsplitting coating on one cemented surface. The separated beams are precisely parallel to each other and to the input. Their spacing varies with prism size but should be at least 4 times the beam size. Both beams have equal optical paths. A parallel-splitting beamsplitter combines a right-angle prism with a rhomboid prism. The coated hypotenuse is cemented to the rhomboid. Outputs are precisely parallel to each other and perpendicular to the input. Changing rhomboid length changes spacing, while the two optical paths differ.
