Cylindrical lens
Cylindrical lenses are aspheric lenses that effectively reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations. Types include plano-convex, plano-concave, biconvex, biconcave, meniscus, crossed-cylinder and specially shaped cylindrical lenses. They provide one-dimensional magnification and are mainly used to change image dimensions, such as converting a point spot into a line or changing image height without changing width. Applications include linear-detector illumination, barcode scanning, holographic illumination, optical information processing, computing and laser emission. Optical cylindrical lenses are also widely used in high-power laser systems and synchrotron beamlines. Requirements are increasingly demanding, especially for cavity optics in high-power laser resonators and precision instruments such as long-distance line interferometers.
