Overview
An optical window is a transparent physical barrier that transmits light between different environments. Both surfaces are precision-polished, equivalent to an optical flat with λ/20 surface accuracy and 5-arcsecond parallelism. Available materials are H-K9L (N-BK7), synthetic fused silica and antireflection-coated H-K9L (N-BK7). H-K9L (N-BK7) is used in the visible and near-infrared. Quartz windows are used for ultraviolet transmission and as heat-insulating windows in environments up to 800°C. Uncoated H-K9L (N-BK7) transmits 92%, while antireflection-coated windows can exceed 99%. An ideal window meets the user's requirements, allows stable, unobstructed transmission and does not change beam characteristics.
