Right-angle roof prism
A right-angle roof prism replaces the hypotenuse face of a right-angle prism with two mutually perpendicular reflecting surfaces. The function of the roof surfaces is to add one reflection without changing the direction of the optical axis, changing the total number of reflections of the prism from odd to even. A right-angle roof prism has the property of turning the light beam by 90° while producing an erect image. Therefore, this prism is widely used in telescope systems, imaging systems, observation systems, and ranging systems.
