Motorized Fiber Polarization Controller
A polarization controller is an effective tool for controlling a single-mode fiber to produce various polarization states. A driver provides 4 channels of DC voltage that alternate between +/-5 V to dynamically control the polarization state of the single-mode fiber. The 5 V DC voltage drives the fiber-squeezing devices inside the polarization controller, which exert stress of more than 25 N on the fiber - enough to vary the polarization state over a 360-degree range. The three fiber-squeezing devices inside the motorized polarization controller are offset by 45 degrees from each adjacent fiber-squeezing device, and the fourth fiber-squeezing device is used for real-time compensation control, thereby avoiding the need for re-resetting caused by reaching control limits.
