HY-77 Miniature Underground Optical-Cable/Electrical-Cable Detector
An oscillator generates an audio-frequency current that flows through the test cable or metal pipeline and returns through the earth. The current creates a magnetic field that reaches the surface through the ground. A detection coil picks up this field; after frequency-selective amplification, the receiver provides headphone monitoring or a digital display. Field changes identify underground metal-pipeline locations. The same principle locates internal core faults through a cable's lead sheath.

Applications
1.Cable tone tracing: reach above 25km at depth ≤15m, above 10km at ≤25m, planar error ≤5cm. 2.Metal oil/steam/water pipelines or lead cable sheaths transmit tones for reach above 1000m; effective depths 7m within 200m, 5m within 600m, 3m within 1000m. 3.Optional grounding probe locates insulation-to-ground faults in underground plastic optical/electrical cables, detecting resistance below 0.5MΩ within 15km.
Key Features
Receiver: 1. A segmented cane-shaped design weighs only 600g including batteries, offering compactness, light weight and portability. 2. An integrated synchronous digital meter displays received signal strength with fast response and high resolution. 3. AAA (7#) batteries, including rechargeable types, and low-power design provide static consumption of only 3mA with the digital meter off. Operation continues when four batteries fall to 3V total. 4. Selected imported low-noise, low-drift ICs and precision components, with temperature compensation, provide a narrow passband, small offset, strong interference immunity, high sensitivity and low noise, especially in strong electrical interference; see specifications. 5. The 512Hz operating frequency allows interchange with transmitters/receivers of other detectors using the same frequency. Transmitter: 1. A cylindrical body fits directly inside a modified fiber-cable marker cover, eliminating the need to guard it during audio transmission and reducing field staffing. 2. Imported micropower computer components and low-power design provide high efficiency. Ten rechargeable AA (5#) NiMH batteries meet most needs and reduce operating costs. Disposable AA batteries may be used in emergencies; alkaline types are strongly recommended and should be removed afterward to prevent leakage damage if shutdown is forgotten. 3. An undervoltage intermittent oscillator produces intermittent output below 10V, informing distant operators of battery condition while reducing consumption and extending test time. Automatic shutdown occurs after eight hours. Additional functions: 1. A solid-state fully sealed structure, tactile switches, a digital contactless volume control and output-short-circuit protection minimize damage under harsh field conditions and varied operator habits. 2. Common AA/AAA (7#) batteries and tool-free thumbscrew/latch construction simplify field replacement. An external 12V vehicle battery or other 10-15V pack can power the transmitter. Connect its leads to the bottom charging contacts without opening the housing; reverse polarity does not damage it. See Chapter 9 charging instructions. 3. A fully symmetric gravity-balanced probe accounts for ground effects on depth-measurement angle, improving optical/electrical cable route and burial-depth accuracy.
