Optical Isolator (OI8005-633)
An optical isolator is composed of a polarizing beamsplitter cube (PBS) and a quarter-wave plate made of quartz crystal. Incident light is converted into linearly polarized light by the PBS, and then converted into circularly polarized light by the quarter-wave plate. If any part of the incident beam is reflected back into the isolator, the quarter-wave plate converts the reflected beam into a linearly polarized beam perpendicular to the incident beam, and this beam is then blocked by the PBS and will not return to the input side of the system.
