Faraday rotation glass TG20
Faraday rotation glass is a novel transparent functional optical material important to advanced optoelectronics. It offers good transmittance in the visible and infrared bands (520-1400nm). When polarized light propagates parallel to the magnetic field, the material rotates its plane of polarization, demonstrating a strong Faraday magneto-optic effect. Because this effect is nonreciprocal, forward and backward incident light of the same wavelength has its polarization plane rotated through the same angle in the same direction, independently of the direction of beam propagation. This makes the material widely useful for manufacturing Faraday rotators. Faraday rotation glass is better suited to medium- and low-power lasers and costs less than other magneto-optic crystals such as TGG and TSAG. TG₂₀ is widely used in switches, modulators, sensors and magneto-optic isolators.
